History

ING Group acquired the ReliaStar Life Insurance Company of Minneapolis in 2000, enabling ING to greatly expand its reinsurance product and service offerings and reinsurance expertise stemming from ReliaStar’s long and illustrious history in the insurance business. Known as Northwestern National Life until 1995, ReliaStar Life was founded in 1885. The company entered the reinsurance field in 1976.
